President Raisi's condition remains unclear after the helicopter he was in was in a crash landing according to state media.

TEHRAN, Iran — The condition of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi remains unclear after the helicopter he was in was in a crash landing Sunday, according to state media.

The Bell 212 helicopter crashed in the Bakrabad Rural District in Kerman Province, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) southeast of Tehran, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Tasnim reported that Raisi was on a trip to the province to visit flood-stricken areas.

State television said Raisi was among the survivors of the crash, but did not provide any details about his condition.

The crash comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over Tehran's nuclear program.

Raisi, a hard-line cleric, was elected president in June 2021.
