Germany Russia War 2024

Germany Prepares for Ongoing Confrontation with Russia

Updated Wartime Plans Highlight Security Concerns

Germany's Defense Ministry Anticipates Need for 75,000 Additional Troops

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's Defense Ministry has concluded that the country will require at least 75,000 additional troops to fulfill its commitments to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) amid ongoing security concerns posed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has emphasized the need for Germany to prepare for a worst-case scenario, including the possibility of war in Europe. He has warned that the country should be prepared for decades of confrontation with Russia.

The updated wartime plans come against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Russia and the West. Putin's ongoing military actions in Ukraine have raised alarm bells across Europe, prompting NATO to increase its military presence in the region.

In response to the evolving security landscape, Germany has pledged to strengthen its armed forces. The country recently announced plans to deliver several thousand strike drones and 100 additional Patriot guided-missiles to Ukraine.
