Biometrics Collection: New Requirements for Temporary Residents Entering Canada
Mandatory for Non-Passport Holders and Certain Green Card Holders
As of November 1, 2023, the Government of Canada has implemented new biometrics collection requirements for temporary residents entering the country through a port of entry (POE).
Foreign Nationals:
Foreign nationals applying for a travel document other than a passport are now required to provide biometrics, regardless of their country of origin. This includes individuals applying for visitor visas, study permits, or work permits.
Permanent Residents:
Permanent residents who hold a valid U.S. green card must now provide biometrics when applying for any of the following: visitor visa, study permit, or work permit in Canada.
Additional Information:
The biometrics collected include fingerprints and a photo. They are used to confirm the identity of individuals and prevent identity fraud. The collection process is quick and non-invasive, and it helps ensure the integrity of the immigration system.
