What is Mpox?

Symptoms of mpox typically appear within 5-21 days after exposure and may include:

The rash associated with mpox typically begins as small, red bumps that may progress to fluid-filled blisters and eventually crust over.
Mpox in the Philippines
The recent case of mpox in the Philippines is the first reported since December 2022. The patient is a 29-year-old male who presented with a fever, headache, and swollen lymph nodes. A rash developed several days later.
Steps Taken by the Philippine Health Department
The Philippine health department has taken the following steps in response to the new mpox case:
- Isolation of the patient
- Contact tracing and isolation of close contacts
- Enhanced surveillance for mpox cases
- Public health messaging to raise awareness and prevent transmission
