Onam Celebrations in Kerala marked by colourful parades, traditional feasts

Thiruvonam, the most important day of Onam was celebrated across Kerala on Saturday with traditional fervour and gaiety, marked by colourful parades, elaborate feasts and religious rituals.

Thousands of people thronged the streets of Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital, to witness the spectacular procession showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The procession, which began from Kanakakunnu Palace, featured colourful floats, traditional music and dance performances, and tableaux depicting scenes from mythology and history. At the Vattiyoorkavu temple, the traditional Onam feast, known as the 'Onasadya', was served to devotees. The Onasadya is a vegetarian feast consisting of over 26 dishes, including rice, sambhar, olan, thoran, aviyal, and payasam.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in his Onam message, urged the people to celebrate the festival in a responsible manner and to take care of the environment.
